While I have never had a claim filed against me, I am insured through:

Pet Sitters Associates, LLC
membership number: 13565
Renewal Date: February 10, 2013

This is my 3rd year with this insurance company. I chose to switch from Business Insurers of the Carolina's because this company offers protection to foster pets. Several of my clients foster (through Golden Beginnings, Dakota and Corridor Rescues) so I felt that it was important to have an insurance that would protect those pets as well.

The Pet Sitter Dishonesty Bond protects me and my customers from loss as a result of theft committed by my employees. Fidelity Bond protection is afforded under an endorsement to the St. Paul Travelers Bond Crime PLUS+® policy.

This Employee Theft Bond coverage includes these features:

The definition of employee includes all owners and officers, full and part time employees, independent contractors, and volunteers. You are covered up to the policy limit of liability for each loss occurrence. There is no aggregate limit of liability.

The bond will apply only after establishment of Proof that the accused party has, in fact, committed a criminal act.

To say to a client "I am bonded by the Travelers Insurance Company", demonstrates the confidence I have in my company and my staff. A bond should assist, you, the client, in feeling more comfortable allowing the pet sitter in your home to provide care for the pets.

Pet First Aid

Your pet is part of your family. And just like any other member of the family, pets can become ill or injured. Would you know how to care for your pet in an emergency? Here are a few tips:

  • Always approach a sick or injured animal slowly and cautiously.
  • Watch the body expressions and sounds your pet makes to warn you. Even your own pet can be aggressive when in pain or frightened.
  • Do not make quick, jerky, or loud movements. They might further scare your pet.
  • When necessary, use towels or blankets to subdue cats or small dogs.
  • Keep the phone number and address of your veterinarian in a convenient location.
  • Have the phone number and address of an after-hours veterinary clinic on hand and keep directions to that clinic in the same place. Whenever possible, call ahead to let them know you'll be coming.

Pay attention to what is normal for your pet so you can detect signals when something is wrong. The American Red Cross Pet First Aid book can help you learn more about caring for your pet in an emergency.
